Quality & Testing.
Respect - Heritage - Innovation - Functionality - Quality.
Heritage Knives
the mark of quality.
At Heritage Knives we test our knifes in all stages of production and carry out perhaps some of the most rigorous testing any manufacturer within a 1000 km or longer does. Our quality and testing methods follow those of International standards and as used in Europe and North America.
Quality for Heritage Knives means from the sourcing of material, how we treat the materials, work, forge and make the steel, leather, wood and other materials into what we believe is an ideal Kukri or knife.
We are obsessed about quality and do not mind spending extra time and money on making sure what we do is fit for heavy use and/or the purpose it was made for. Even if you’re only going to hang it on the wall or use if for social media show, you should know what you have in hand. Our blades are reliable and functional.
Most new staff and visitors do think we are crazy, yes, we are, as we want quality assurance and proof of quality.
Each stage is documented so we can follow up if there are any issues later,
it never was and never will be about mass production
for us at Heritage Knives.
For us it is about the Honour and Respect of hand crafting a blade for you.
Once our blade is done, we test on various materials like buffalo horn, bone, ropes, various wood, bamboo, bricks, nails of different quality and metal.
Among other things we test the knife/Kukri´s for is:
Corrosion Resistance, Ductility, Edge Retention, Hardenability,
Hardness, Initial Sharpness, Manufacturability,
Strength, Toughness, Wear Resistance
We do the water bottle test as well as cut paper and thin materials as each Kukri/knife model has a purpose behind their creation and we want to be sure you get the best we can make.
As you probably know cutting bones, frozen food, porcelain, glass and other hard substances with a very sharp edge is not the best idea and may result in chipping or the edge being bent.
The tests we carry out, some which are shown in images and videos should not be done at home or by new users, please handle with care.
Throwing a wood or horn handled knife/kukri into the wall is neither a good idea! Its not a throwing knife nor a boomerang.
Do not cut soft material like paper with a dull edge. All edges unless specified are for general utility and we believe you the user to use your blade with common sense and proper knowledge. Any doubt contact us before creating a dangerous situation for yourself and others.
If you are in Nepal or plan to come, please do contact us for a testing session.
Heritage Knives believes in honesty, transparency and quality.
Quality by hardcore testing and
always functionality in mind.
Each model we develop has a standard test and its own tests as it needs to pass because each model has a purpose and main use.
Heritage Knives makes blades for a purpose, with a purpose.
